50 Book cradle (50 cm / 40 kg)

A book cradle is a device that compensates for the binding or the thickness of a book.

This option makes it possible to obtain optimal digitization quality while meeting all standards for document conservation.

The book cradle can:

  • stabilize both sides of the open document. It is, in fact, essential that both pages of the document be approximately at the same height to digitize under good conditions.
  • assist the operator in bringing the document between the two focal planes where document legibility is clear (depth of field). This is actually compensation for the height of the document.
  • partially open the document (120° for example) if the fragility of the binding does not allow it to be fully opened.

Images 1 and 2 illustrate the new 500 mm / 40 kg book cradle option. The book cradle plates are controlled from a console located to the operator's right.

The vertical position of each plate can also be controlled individually. The space between the plates can be adjusted based on the thickness of the binding. A clever mechanical device maintains the relative position of the two plates in function of the weight of the work.

Out of a concern for the preservation of the originals, our book cradles do not contain any hydraulic systems and therefore do not have any associated risk of pressure or liquid leaks that could damage the document.
